grateful for every moment

As referenced in the practice of omotenashi (providing service from the bottom of your heart), Il Naosuke developed this concept, believing that although a host may see someone often, each moment together can never be replaced or repeated. It is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Therefore, as the host, one should take great care with every moment spent with your guest and sincerely devote oneself to ensuring the meeting with your guest is flawlessly coordinated and planned.

If you have ever had a chance to participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony or experienced top-tier concierge services during a vacation, you probably felt their sincere commitment and devotion to providing unforgettable moments. They understand the concept of now and how important each moment is.

However, ichi-go ichi-e also applies to the recipient. It’s essential to be aware, mindful, and grateful for that special moment. Understanding and appreciating that the moment could never be replicated. Absorbing every little moment wholeheartedly.

Look around you. Observe who you’re with, what’s happening, and what surrounds you. Take the time to find the beauty, the emotions felt, and the experiences lived. It’s a truly wonderful feeling when you share your gratitude with others in that moment and every other experience in the future.

Train doors almost close —
your wave holds a thousand words
I will not forget.
